Robert Bruce "Bob" Angle, 83, died on November 14, 2016 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, NC.
Bob was born to the late Hugh and Rolene Angle on February 17, 1933 in Bay Village, Ohio. He served as an acolyte at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church in Bethel, CT, and the church's young rector Jack Sharkey played a vital role in nurturing him as a young man.
Upon his graduation from Bethel High School, Bob received a Naval ROTC scholarship to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After a good many twists and turns, Bob graduated from UNC in 1959, following a short but distinguished career in the Army as a 1st Lieutenant and paratrooper.
Bob met Claire Frank in Chapel Hill, and they were married on November 6, 1954. His first job after graduation was with the Connecticut General Insurance Company in Charlotte, NC. He remained a vital force in the insurance brokerage industry for 40 years, including serving as an expert witness before the United States Congress.
In 2000, Bob moved to what he regarded as his own personal oceanfront paradise in Pine Knoll Shores, NC.
Bob loved people and never knew a stranger, and was a regular in the coffee shops of Beaufort. An avid lover of history, he was a dedicated volunteer tour guide at Fort Macon State Park.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Frank and sister Margaret, and granddaughter Claire. Bob is survived by his first wife and dear friend, Claire Frank Angle Merritt; son, Robert Jr. and wife Emily; son, John and wife Laura; son, Steven and wife Christy; daughter, Sarah (Gillett) and husband Andy; fourteen beloved grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and younger sister, Barbara Stevens.
A memorial service to the glory of God and in thanksgiving for his life and salvation will be held on Sunday, November 20 at 3 PM at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem, NC. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials in Bob's honor may be given to Hospice of Carteret County in Morehead City, NC and the Kate B.
